EURO-DOLLAR: Opened Asia around $1.3745, with early trade in the session
contained between $1.3742/50 before edging higher late on to $1.3764 on
general dollar weakness, settling between $1.3750/60 into the European
session. Rate currently trades around $1.3757. Underlying tone said to
remain positive, one trader suggests, adding that order boards still
mainly bid. Offers noted from above $1.3780 (NY high $1.3781) through to
a reported option barrier at $1.3800, with area surrounding Wednesday's
posted life time high at $1.3787. Stops reported on a break of $1.3810,
which if triggered opens a move toward $1.3840/50, $1.3850 said to hold
further option barrier interest. Bids $1.3740/30, more on the approach
to $1.3700.

10:33  AlexGrig: The Canadian Trade Surplus for the month of May comes out later today at 1230 GMT and it is expected to print C$ 5.5 Billion, down from C$ 5.8 Billion in April.

The markets would closely watch the exports figure as the CAD has gained sharply in the first four months of the year. In April, the exports had a minor fall and were at C$ 40.7 Billion. Of particular interest would be the Canada's exports to the US (Canada's principal trading partner), which stood at C$ 30.6 Billion. A fall in Exports would be bad for CAD as there may be perception that a strong CAD is hurting Export Competitiveness of Canadian companies.

On the other hand, Imports which declined by 2.2% in April to C$ 34.9 Billion could show an increase on imports of Cars from the US, as the CAD gains in first 6 month of the year has made US Goods cheaper for Canadians.

10:34  AlexGrig: The Canadian Monetary Policy Report Summary would be an important Report to watch out for Loonie traders, later today at 1430 GMT. The bank releases four monetary policy reports every year, with the January and the July reports being the summary reports.

The important things to watch out for in this report would be, has there been any revision in the BOC's view on Inflation and Growth for the coming year(s). A revision generally leads to volatility in the CAD with the Inflation updates receiving more attention, as the BOC's Monetary Policy is more driven by Inflation Expectations and Inflation Targeting.

In its April report, the BOC had said this on Inflation…

"…….core inflation is projected to decline to 2 per cent by the end of 2007 and remain there through the projection period. If energy prices evolve in line with those currently reflected in futures markets, total inflation should average just below 2 per cent in the second quarter of 2007 before moving above the 2 per cent target and peaking below 3 per cent near the end of 2007. Total inflation should then return to target by mid-2008….."

There could be a revision on the upside to the inflation outlook, as we have seen a rally in the Energy Prices and the Food Prices since April, with the Crude currently quoting near a 10-Month High of $72.50. If there is indeed an upward revision to the inflation outlook, the CAD could gain.

In its April Report, the BOC has said this on the Canadian GDP…

"……In the Bank's base-case projection, economic growth increases through 2007, with quarterly growth averaging just below 2 1/2 per cent in the first half of the year and just above 2 1/2 per cent in the second half. This implies average annual growth for 2007 of 2.2 per cent, slightly lower than in the January Update, largely reflecting the impact of the weaker U.S. economic outlook on Canadian export growth. For 2008 and 2009, GDP growth is projected at 2.7 per cent each…..."
